Berry Pickin'

Dude...at Whole Foods in the Mill, 9 raspberries are like $4. We picked 4-5 buckets and it was $13! Finn picked a whole bucket herself. I had to drag her out of the bushes. We went to this little farm house store after and had milkshakes. I forgot to mention two things about Portland; 1. They have insane food carts. One day I had Korean Yakisoba noodles with shrimp and the next day I had Kung Pao Thai noodles. I didn't even know that was possible. 2. You can't buy booze in the stores. You have to go to this weird government run store where they won't let you touch the bottles. I found some cool local gin called 12 Bridges.

My little nephew is bizarrely exceptional at shooting baskets. I'm not joking around here either. This is not the normal situation where your kid bumps a crayon onto paper and you think he's Picaso. This is the REAL DEAL! He can throw a ball directly to you EVERY time from 3 - 6 ft. away. He can shoot baskets on his little hoop and even do hook shots. I've NEVER seen a kid with that kind of coordination. He's 2. Later Lebron...enter EJ.

Beavertown - PDX Part 2

Jen took us to Bob's Red Mill for breakfast. They make fresh bread and have a store front and restaurant. The water wheel out front is enormous.

Scarlett and I found a bunch of cool places online that we wanted to visit in Portland and Jen and Matt drove us around. They had this great fountain for the kids to swim in. We ate ice cream and bummed around PDX.

Scarlett and Finn played some hoops with their cousin, Elijah. Matt and Jen put us up for a few days at their house in Beaverton and we had a great time together. They carted us all over Portland and were gracious hosts. More to come about Elijah's basketball abilities.

Beavertown - Ashland

We took a road trip to Beaverton, OR to visit Kara's brother's family. We stopped in Ashland to stay the night at a bed and breakfast called "Anne Hathaway's". Suffice it to say... Anne Hathaway was not there. Finny was WILD this night as evidenced in the photos. We were all in the same room and it was painfully hot outside. At around 11pm when everything finally calmed down and it was quiet, Finn sat up in bed and sang, "My name's Fionnula, I like to party."

Engagement Party for Uncle Ryan

Uncle Ryan and Aunt Suzie had an engagement party in Modesto at Suzie's parent's house. It was hot man. Ryan had to give his "thank you" speech with Finn on his back.

Big Girl Bed - RECALL

This photo will have to be recalled. We took the rail off Puff's crib to make a big girl bed and a few days later we had to put it back on. On two separate occasions I went into her bedroom in the morning and had to sort of push her body out of the way with the door. She had climbed out and went to sleep in front of the door. Luckily the "witch" in her bed decided to visit some other house for a few days.

I took Puff to the Band of Horses in-store appearance at Amoeba. I knew the lady who was in charge so they gave Finn some stickers and a special crate to stand on. It was the second show of her life. They even played her favorite song last and she was dancing around. After the show we took a walk through the park and watched the lawn bowling teams. I let her ride on the carousel which was 100% terrifying. I didn't know this until the ride started and she death gripped her horse.

Independence Day

We hit up the Sausalito 4th of July parade and picnic. Our pal Sara had a party in the East Bay and then we came back to Saus for fireworks. There's no pictures of Scarlett because she was on an island getaway and eating dinner with Al Bundy. Also...I'm not joking about the Al Bundy part.

My brother's gal Suzie made us get our family photo taken and despite our stubborn, bad attitudes, they turned out pretty well. See below. We visited my Grandpa and he let us taste some 182 proof grappa. It was like drinking kerosene. I included some photos of all the cool stuff inside his house.

I don't think too many things are "perfect" but look how good this Frida stencil is that Scarlett made. She cut it out of paper with a razor blade and I think it turned out pretty awesome. I told her to "hit the streets" with it. She's too young for illegal street art but this thing needs to be seen!

I bought Kara a latte and spilled the ENTIRE cup in my Ranger on the floor. My truck smells like a butt turned inside out. I don't know what to do. I might have to throw it away. Big Halloween party again. The dude down the street who USUALLY runs the Vortex is re-doing his damn kitchen so it was a no go this year. The Vortex is this tube-like structure that spins around when you walk through it and you feel like you are going to honk and fall down. We nearly ran out of candy too. We went through over 5 pounds!

We've been carving pumpkins with Pat, Berry and Aja now for over 5 years. Scarlett carved a cool robot and I made Finn an Elmo pumpkin. I had to carve the bear getting struck by lightning by myself the next night. Check out the photo of Ol' Man Foster carving his pumpkin.

Nicassio pumpkin patch! It was pretty hot out there. We skipped the 2 mph hay ride this time. It took about 30 minutes to get there and when we arrived they maybe had about 24-25 pumpkins left for the 50-100 people there. It was still fun though and this year Puff did NOT try to eat a rock. Ol' Costello's a big kid now but she hung in there.

We had a mega-family vacation in Maui. We stayed with Kara's parents and my mama came along too. We swam a LOT. Finn did not adjust well to the time change as you can see from the surveillance style photo of her snoozin' in the dark. We went to a beach called "Baby Beach" to let Finn get used to the ocean. Ryan and I met Fisher and the Taco at St. George's Distillery in Alameda. Some of the booze tasted good and some of it tasted like gasoline (Chipotle Vodka, I'm lookin' at you). The lady giving the tour made me so uncomfortable that I considered going home.

This is Puff's local park. I push her stroller to the entrance, un-clip her and hold her while I count to 3. I then release her and she kind of "hop-runs" and yells "Kaye Park" the whole way.
